2020 Rich’s Ramblings:
Week 5 Results
Top story of this week…the largest single prize in the 32-year history of theDodger (yup, I started this pool for the 1989 season) was captured by AidnBrenD, who takes down the 4-times rolled sidepool all to herself. As noted in the email I sent out on Tuesday, while she was lurking one game behind the leaders (Frodo and SweetMan) heading in to the two night games, she had opposite picks for those games from the leaders, and therefore had the chance of taking down the pool if she got those picks right. In the end, neither game was close, as the Chargers easily covered the spread against the Saints (despite losing the game), and Tennessee stiff-armed Buffalo out of the stadium in the second half to easily win that game. AidnBrenD collects 25 bananas from each of the 43 sidepool participants, which totals 1.075 grand bananas! AidnBrenD also captures the Week 5 1st prize to add another 100 bananas to her collection. As I told her in the Venmo note…not jealous, not one bit!
There is an 11-way tie for the $50 Week 5 2nd prize between Bookman, Fosser, Frodo, Go(big)Blue, noMSG, PapaO, Pontooner, RollingRock, Sweetman, theSandman, and WawbeekBombers. That’s an equity of $4.55 each!
We are back to normal rules for the sidepool. Accordingly, until I invoke the special rule again, you need to beat out everyone else to win the sidepool. It will roll over if two or more people tie for first. 215 is a decent pot if someone wins the unrolled pool.
As for old news, we had a 5-way tie for 1st and 2nd in Week 4, and it has been fully resolved. Congrats to Bookman for winning 1st place, and to PugMom2 for winning 2nd place in Week 4. Cartwright, BrotherBruce, and FriskyCow get lovely parting gifts…err, never mind, they get nothing but the glory of what might have been.
As with recent seasons, the payouts for the Weekly prizes are 100 bananas for 1st, 50 mangos for 2nd. This leaves a healthy pot for the year-end prizes.
I have entered the Week 6 point spreads, so you can go make those picks. Due to the many Covid19 game changes, we have no Thursday night game in Week 6, so all picks are due this week by 11:00 am Sunday (Eastern times).
COVID-19 news and policy
As noted last week, the following COVID-19 policy is in effect. In Week 4 we had one game postponed, so Week 4 counts and prizes will be paid. As a reminder, this is how I intend to handle potential COVID-19 related cancelations in the football pool:
YOU are responsible to make sure the system received your picks
After you hit the ‘Submit Your Picks’ button, you will get a page that has the title “The Following Picks Have Been Received For PlayerName”. Please print out this page, and verify that all the picks are the ones you meant to make. The following (unfortunate) scenarios have happened in the past:
If you fill out your picks but do not hit the ‘Submit’ button, the system will not get your picks. If you hit submit, but manage to lose internet connection before you get the confirmation page, then the system did not get your picks. Finally, it is possible to accidently select the wrong team in the drop down box, so you might discover on Sunday that you mistakenly picked a team you did not mean to. If you print out the confirmation page, then you will know (and have proof) that your picks are in the system.
